![]() Fredrik covered up the find with the collaboration of his investor, but a later cave-in tragedy shut mining operations down anyway and ruined him financially. It was this event that drove Fretlands apart and sowed distrust between Johan and Fredrik. Such shutdown would have buried the Fretlands in debt. ![]() Inside the Fretland mine, numerous Viking artifacts and treasures of significant archaeological value were discovered whose public disclosure would have forced the shutdown of mining operations. Edwards also finds a letter written by a bereaved and distraught Fredrik, promising closure, and a lighter which Edward claims to belong to Elizabeth.Ĭoncluding that Elizabeth came to Graavik to write the story of the Fretlands, he makes way to the hill, first to Johan's farmhouse where he finds correspondence from Fretlands' British investor threatening financial ruin. Now alone, Edward unlocks the final room of the house, finding the deceased body of his host, Anna Fretland. Later, the angel and Alice, now revived, try to dissuade Edward from his obsession but Edward casts them out forever. At the side of her limp body, Edward is rebuked by a large angelic statue, insisting he's not alone. At the Fretland farmhouse, Alice hurls herself off of the roof to Edward's horror. Remorseful, Edward gives chase and begs Alice's forgiveness. An incandescent Edward banishes Alice in rage, who disintegrates into thin air – revealing that she was a figment of Edward's imagination. ![]() His relief is rebuked by a furious Alice, who castigates his increasingly unhinged behavior and callousness to the world around him. Finding a recent, unnamed burial, Edward is violently distraught and digs up the deceased – not his sister but a stranger. Most of the deaths are attributed to being caused by a local curse. They enter the boarded up and abandoned church, and find the records of recent births and deaths. On their fourth day in the village, the pair hear the ringing of the church bell, which they race to investigate. Also, tension begin to rise between the scientifically minded and skeptical Edward and the empathetic and compassionate Alice, who insists Edward to break out of his obsession of seeking his sister and piece together the tragedy in Graavik. In the meantime, Edward finds various articles of clothing, like a hat, a pair of gloves and a brooch, which he asserts to belong to her sister and left behind as breadcrumbs for him to find her. Later on, Edward find Anna's diary entries showing concern for Ruth, who had apparently been making secret visits somewhere on the island and hoarding seemingly ancient Viking artifacts. Edward and Alice come upon a unnamed villager near the church who hung himself. Ultimately, the death of Fredrik's daughter Ruth, for which Fredrik accuses his nephew Simon, breaks any remaining family bonds completely and sparks open conflict. An unknown quarrel drew the brothers apart and their hostility to each other was reflected among the rest of the community. They learn that Graavik used to be a mining town, ran by twin brothers Johan and Fredrik Fretland. The pair explore the village the next day, primarily for news of Elizabeth, but also to uncover the eerie events preceding the disappearance of the villagers. After a frantic pursuit through the hillside, he is found by Alice, who notes that their boat, tethered at the coast, has now disappeared, stranding them in the village. ![]() During their first night, Edward catches a glimpse of a shadow at his window and gives chase, believing the figure to his sister. Searching the house, Edward finds a tailor's dummy, wearing his sister's characteristic scarf, convincing him that Elizabeth had been or perhaps still is in the vicinity. With the owners missing, the pair settle in and wait for the arrival of the natives. Edward and Alice find the village completely deserted and seek out the Fretland farmhouse. The game emphasizes the more sinister aspects of Norwegian folklore.Įdward Harden arrives in the remote village of Graavik with his young companion, Alice. Sheet Music for “Under the Mountain Dark and Tall” ![]() Here is the audio for “Under the Mountain Dark and Tall” as well as a link to a video on YouTube: If any male singers wished to perform this song I would be happy to hear that as it would make for a better musical experiment. I was limited to using mainly software-generated instruments and my soprano voice, so the result isn’t ideal but I think it at least gives listeners one possible interpretation of Tolkien’s words. The music should take advantage of the acoustics of a large, cavernous space.Tolkien says the song is much like “Far Over the Misty Mountains” in Chapter 1, which is slow in pace, adds instruments and voices gradually, and evokes the imagination.I can only be sure that the musicians know how to play fiddles, harps, drums, clarinets, flutes, and viols and so should choose from among these instruments.4/4 time signature as this matches the rhythm of Tolkien’s chosen poetic meter. These were the musical requirements based on what I read in Chapter 15 of The Hobbit: I have written some music to go with the lyrics of “ Under the Mountain Dark and Tall,” trying to create something that matched what Tolkien described. The songs sung by the Dwarves tell of their love of lavishly beautiful things, their long memories, and their quest to reclaim the homeland and treasure that was stolen from them. Their songs can be silly, hopeful, or sad, revealing that Dwarves feel deeply and are more sensitive than one might at first think. Unlike the happy, lilting jigs and waltzes of the Elves, Dwarven songs are richly ornamented, develop slowly, and describe real world events in intricate detail. Although Tolkien never wrote any music for his song lyrics, it’s possible to imagine possible melodies based on his descriptions of the music. Tolkien feature 4/4 time signatures, rich instrumentation, and deep male voices singing in harmony. ![]() ![]() Table View SQL Insert Computer Icons, Creative Table transparent background PNG clipart size: 512x512px filesize: 2.82KB.PostgreSQL Logo Database management system graphics, sql logo transparent background PNG clipart size: 500x500px filesize: 14.68KB.Azure Data Lake Microsoft Azure SQL Database Big data, Data Lake transparent background PNG clipart size: 512x512px filesize: 10.44KB.Microsoft Excel logo, Microsoft Excel Computer Icons Spreadsheet Computer Software, microsoft transparent background PNG clipart size: 3187x1496px filesize: 36.36KB. ![]() Power Point icon, Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation Microsoft Office Microsoft Word, MS Powerpoint transparent background PNG clipart size: 825x350px filesize: 17.92KB.Microsoft Azure SQL Database Data warehouse, perspective transparent background PNG clipart size: 512x512px filesize: 7.8KB. ![]()

For desktop computers, Navicat Cloud has been integrated into all existing database administration products, including Navicat for MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Navicat Premium. There are two ways to connect to the Navicat Cloud service, depending on the type of device you are using. Since it only stores your connection settings, queries, model files, and virtual groups, your database passwords and data are never stored on Navicat Cloud, so it remains under your own control at all times. That’s what makes Navicat Cloud a sensible alternative. Understandably, this has made company owners squeamish about leaving their data in someone else’s hands. Keeping Your Data SafeĬloud Storage has come under fire recently after numerous high profile security breaches. Any changes in the Cloud are instantly reflected in your administration tool so you always have real-time access. Storing them in one place allows you to synchronize across multiple devices, which I think is a great idea since most people own more than one mobile device. Navicat Cloud Review What is Navicat Cloud?Īlthough the Cloud is nothing new, Navicat Cloud was specifically designed for storing your connection settings, queries, models, and virtual group information. ![]() In this review, I’ll be taking a look at both these offerings: first, Navicat Cloud, then the Cloud via the Navicat iOS app. Navicat, the company best known for their Navicat Premium multi-database management application, has now introduced its own Cloud-based service along with a dedicated application for iOS devices. Another advantage is that OS-based applications can provide a richer user experience than Web-based ones. Lately, the trend has been towards applications specifically targeted to mobile devices, since that is what people always have with them. Many early Cloud Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) providers offered a Web interface for this purpose. For that, DBAs require tools that will allow them to perform administrative tasks wherever they may be. Moreover, 24×7 support often comes with the territory. Today, the typical DBA is responsible for one or more production databases located within an organization’s network or on a third-party site known as “the Cloud”. Gone are the days that a Database Administrator (DBA) spent his or her time between a desktop workstation and database server(s). A reality of the modern world is that people need to have the ability to access their data at a moment’s notice. ![]() ![]() ![]() I did, and being a gamer myself, I immediately identified that this prototype was very promising. The rest of the strange situation can be explained from events following the avalanche. ![]() Photo taken by Soviet authorities at the camp of the Dyatlov Pass incident and annexed to the legal inquest that investigated the deaths. The tent had been cut open from inside, and most of the skiers had fled in socks or barefoot. This photo was taken on the day the Dyatlov group’s tent was discovered, February 26, 1959. The victims with chest and head injuries survived for a time before succumbing to their wounds, which coincides with what the computer models revealed. By using the animator’s code to simulate an avalanche’s impact on humans along with information from General Motors’ tests of crashes on cadavers, the researchers showed that a block of ice no bigger than an SUV could have caused the resulting injuries when it rammed into the tent. The excellent depictions of snow’s movement in “Frozen” propelled Gaume to visit the movie’s animators. The Disney movie “Frozen” also aided in solving the mystery. ![]() This is where the new theory steps in, which points the finger at a small but strong slab avalanche.Īlexander Puzrin of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, who has studied slab avalanches, and Johan Gaume of the Snow Avalanche Simulation Laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne used computer models to recreate the event. Part of the reason the mystery remained was that the search party did not see evidence of a large avalanche. While the group was sleeping in their tent, these downslope winds must have carried snow from higher up on the mountain to start the avalanche. The trigger that started a slide was most likely katabatic winds – fierce winds blowing down from a mountain. Image via Dyatlov Memorial Foundation.Įxpedition members also might not have realized that the underlying snow layer was loose and slippery, allowing the snowpack on top to slide. The last known photo of the Dyatlov group showed them cutting into the snow to put up their tent. Russian authorities long ago realized that the snow on the mountain obscured the undulating terrain, and the skiers must not have realized that the slope they were setting up camp on was about 30 degrees, the minimum incline needed for avalanches to start. The last photograph on the skiers’ camera showed the group cutting into the snow slope to erect their tent. The trekkers had gotten a bit off course and ended up camping higher on the mountain slope than their original plans, which would have put them about a mile downward by the woods. The last members to be discovered were farther in the woods and down a ravine.ĭiaries found at the campsite showed that the group’s last night was February 1, 1959. Some were found deceased in apparent attempts to return to camp. Some were near the tree line in their underwear around the remains of a fire. The searchers found the skiers scattered downhill from the campsite. Some of the clothing showed evidence of radioactivity. Two bodies were missing their eyes and one body was missing its tongue. Autopsies revealed three died from head and chest trauma while six died of hypothermia. The last bodies were not recovered until May 4 of that year.Īnalysis of the campsite showed the trekkers had cut themselves out of their tent and fled in various stages of undress. The searchers discovered the campsite and the first of the bodies on February 26, 1959. When the trekkers were more than a week overdue, an extensive rescue operation was set in motion. The outing was led by Igor Dyatlov, whose name would be linked to the incident and to the pass where the group met their fate.ĭue to poor health, one of the 10 turned back early. Members of the group were aiming to earn their Grade III skiing certification. On January 27, 1959, eight men and two women from the Ural Polytechnical Institute set out for a 190-mile (300-km) skiing expedition. How did the nine trekkers die on the snowy slopes of Russia’s Kholat Saykhl, a name that translates to Dead Mountain? Avalanche researchers, with some help from the movie Frozen, think they know the answer. I like to track my budget in a plain old spreadsheet, the same one where I balance my checkbook. Tracking Your Budgeting Percentages in a Spreadsheet. For example, $900 monthly rent divided by $2,000 monthly income = 0.45, or 45% of your monthly budget. You can do this by dividing the expense by your income. To determine how your monthly expenses fit the 50/20/30 Rule, first write down your overall expected income for the month.
